On 26 November, 2024 the Lili Debating Society had the honor of participating in the inspiring Leibniz Debate Night, an evening dedicated to showcasing the art of debating while welcoming new voices to the stage. Sharing the spotlight with the talented team from Leibniz Gymnasium and Albert Einstein Gymnasium, the event was less about competition and more about celebrating what debating is truly about: confidence, collaboration, and connection.
With parents and friends filling the audience – many experiencing a debate event for the first time – the evening unfolded in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Guests were treated to a delicious cake buffet and a stellar performance by a live band, whose music set the perfect tone for the exciting discussions to come.
Rising to the Challenge: THB AI should replace teachers.
Our team participated in the impromptu debate against Leibniz Gymnasium, taking only 30 minutes to prepare for the thought-provoking motion: “This House Believes AI should replace teachers” that the audience had picked right before! Representing the proposition, our team gave their all – and the results were truly great!
One highlight was the debut of our newest member, Arjun (8.1), who joined us just six weeks ago. He confidently stepped into the spotlight as the first speaker, delivering a self-confident and compelling opening that set the tone for our argument. Despite a few bumps in our team line, we did win the debate, thanks to teamwork and spirited effort. Above all, our third speaker Franzi (10.1) was named Speaker of the Debate! Her trademark enthusiasm and dynamic speaking style once again captivated the audience and judges alike, earning her well-deserved praise. In the end, both audience and judges were convinced that THIS MOTION MUST STAND and AI replacing teachers is the only sensible solution!
A Night to Remember
The Lili Debating Society celebrated not just a win, but a night of growth and shared achievement. The evening wasn’t just about our performance – it was about giving our new members the chance to step onto the stage, connecting with our audience, and embracing the joy of debating.
