On Friday 15 September the English advanced course (LK Q1 with Frau Mees) went to the International Literature Festival 2017. We attended the lecture of the novel ”The hate u give“, written by Angie Thomas. Angie Thomas answered a lot of questions, which were moderated by Toby. The main topic was the “Black Lives Matter“ movement in America and how she got inspired for her first novel. She’s fighting for “Black Lives Matter“ – a movement that campaigns against violence towards African Americans by the police in America. The only negative point of the book presentation was that the author only read a very short part of her book. Our expectations were that she would read most of the time, instead of talking.
Zusammengefasst war es eine sehr interessante Erfahrung. Es ist Angie Thomas‘ erster Roman und er war nach nur einer Woche auf Nummer 1 der New York Times Bestsellerliste! Es war toll einer englischen Muttersprachlerin aus Jackson, Mississippi zuzuhören und wir fanden es sehr bemerkenswert, wie sehr sie hinter dem “Black Lives Matter“ steht und wie stark sie gegen den Rassismus ankämpft.
